Kyung Bok Palace

Kyung Bok Palace (604) 207-1120 Central Richmond 5300 #3 Rd Richmond, BC V6X kyungbokpalace.ca Mediocre-average food, unsatisfactory service During the summer, my mom and i went to visit Kyung Bok pace. We frequently dine at this restaurant, as it is one of the few authentic korean restaurants operating in Richmond. Unfortunately, the food qualities has been declining, while the service was always not that pleasant. style=""> I opted for the bimbimbap and seafood soup from the "specials" menu while my mom opted for seafood noodles in the regular menu.
After ages of waiting, our banchans (side dishes) finally arrived. My mom and i both thought that the kimchi was a bit on the salty side, while the potato and bean sprouts tasted good.
I wonder if Kyung Bok place makes their own kimchi or simply purchases them...
My mom said that her noodles tasted normal, although the noodles were very chewy, which is good. She also noted that the soup base tastes very msg ish...
My bimbimbap was the second to arrive. It was just a regular bimbimbap, with nothing too special or too absurd. What made me very upset was that my soup took FOREVER to arrive. I remember that i was almost done eating my bimbimbap when the soup finally arrived. Also, it was a tad bit on the salty side too. However, the flavour and the spiciness was satisfactory .
Overall, our dining experience at Kyung Bok palace is satisfactory, yet i would strongly suggest them to improve their service. Kyung Bok Palace on Urbanspoon

Rainflower restaurant

Rainflower restaurant

粵之醉海鮮酒家

3600 #3 Rd Map.5c43098
RichmondBC V6X2H6
Rainflower restaurant offers average cantonese cuisine with fair prices.

Since my family bought a vip card for $20 at this restaurant, we visit it frequently.
After my aunt and grandparents came to Vancouver, we decided to take them to try vancouver's famous dim sum, aka "yum cha"

Eggtart was one of the first items to arrive, it wwas warm and fluffy. Not standing out, but above the mediocre.

Beef fried rice noodles with veggies-tasted plain and tasteless, definitely not a satisfying dish. I will 100% not order it again, especially when i can order a larger, better dish of  this for the same price in other restaurants.

Ginko with stir fried veggies-stir fried bean sprouts, carrot, tofu skin and ginko fruit. The soup in this dish is very tasty and flavourful.

Preserved egg and pork congee- This, again, is also on the bland side like the rice noodles. I find congee at Tai Hing much much better.

Pineapple bun with cha xiu stuffing-freshly baked and crispy, however, i found the mix of the sweetness of the bun and the saltiness of meat stuffing very awkward.
Baked Durian pastry- This dish is one of the specialities of this restaurant. My mom LOVES this dish, and this is a must when we dine at rain flower. I detest durian, so i never tried eating this dish

Steamed beef stomach- A bit too soggy for my liking, and the smell of beef was peculiarly overpowering in this dish.

Fried shrimp spring roll- my favourite dish, the fragrance of the garlic with the freshness of the shrimp stuffing is simply amazing.

Five spice soy tofu-marinated tofu with peanuts. The tofu was first fried, then marinated.

Five spice soy tofu-marinated tofu with peanuts. The tofu was first fried, then marinated. The tofu was so flavourful and dynamic, loved this dish!

The radish cake, a common cantonese dim sum dish, was simply average.

The eggplant with the shrimp stuffing was one of my favourites, the chewiness of the shrimp was matched with the soft eggplant.

Steamed pumpkin with ribs- great flavour, the meat is moist and fresh. However, it was a bit too oily for my likings, especially when the pumpkin absorbed all of the oil/juice of the meat.

Rice roll with fish paste- rice roll wrapped chinese doughnut with fish paste as the stuffing. Tasted average, as the doughnut was not fresh and too hard for my liking.

The bill came to about $120, approximately $20 per person with tax included.

Cattle Cafe

1020-8580 Alexandra Road
Richmond, BC V6X4B3
Hours: Mon-Sun-11am-1am

Cattle cafe is one of my favourite comfort restaurants. After a hard core session of karaoke with H, T and W, we inevitably had to visit the close-by cattle cafe.
I usually order a bowl of their fish soup noodles, but this time i opted for something else as the weather was quite humid.
For appetizers we ordered spicy chill pig ears- $4.50
This is a flavourful, wonderful dish with many chilli peppers, which makes the pig ears very, very numb and spicy

I ordered the mini curry pan fried pork with rice-$6.95, with an extra $1 for the HK style lemon rebina. The curry was different from typical Indian curry, as it was sweeter and milder. The fried pork chops and potatoes were juicy and flavourful. Although this is stated as MINI, I realize that this worthier than the normal curry combos, because it is $2 less and has almost no difference in terms of size.

The lemon regina was a interesting drink. The sourness of the lemon accommodated well with the rebina ( an asian syrup-mixed drink ), however, people who don't prefer sour may complain that it is too sour for their liking. Also, there were too much ice and only half a cup of rebina :(. I still prefer lemon coke over this drink.
H ordered the normal curry chicken combo- $8.95
She said that the chicken was moist and juicy, but my curry dish has been better. H also added $1 for a hk style lemon tea, which tastes almost identical in every hk style restaurant.

T ordered the prawns & European Weiners in Cream Corn Bacon Demi-Glaze on spaghetti $9.75. This was the most expensive dish we ordered. I personally liked this dish, although i do not like cream sauces. The prawns and wieners matched the savoury flavour of this dish. However, i would like this dish more if there were less sauce, too much sauce produces a soggy texture.

We ended this meal with egg waffles -$3.95 , which is a traditional HK snack. The inner "bubbles" were chewy and the outside was crisp. A perfect way to end an almost perfect meal.
Cattle Cafe is a relatively cheap hk restaurant with comparably nice food, it qualities as one of my favourite restaurants.
